The Society has established a number of schools competitions for young people of the county which include the Charles Churchill and Vaughan Davies essay prizes, the Clement Davies art prizes and the Garthgwynion music prize. In 1995, a new award was established, for students of Coleg Powys. This is perhaps the most visible way in which the Society contributes to the present life of the county.

The competitor's full name and year, together with the name of his/her school, competition group and title of essay or theme of work of art, should be written in BLOCK letters on a separate sheet of paper which must be attached to the entry when submitted.
The title of the essay (and the title only) should be written on the top of the essay.
